World Soil Day 2025
About World Soil Day
World Soil Day (WSD) is observed annually on 5 December as a means to draw attention to the importance of healthy soil and to promote the sustainable management of soil resources. The establishment of an international day to celebrate soil was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002. Following its endorsement at the FAO Conference in 2013, World Soil Day was formally recognized by the UN General Assembly.
The 2025 theme of World Soil Day, “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities”, will focus on urban soils and the challenges of soil sealing, where natural soil is covered or compacted by artificial, impermeable materials, which can exacerbate flooding and reduce groundwater recharge.
The Soil Science Society of Bangladesh will observe World Soil Day 2025 in a festive mood, just as it has in previous years.
