Welcome to the SSSB

The Soil Science Society of Bangladesh (SSSB) is the forum of soil scientists of Bangladesh. The objectives of the SSSB are to promote soil research and its management to conserve soil and water for growing crops and ensure sustainable agriculture and green environment for future generation.  The society also support all soil scientists across the country in the pursuit of their activities and also acts as platform to reach IUSS. This website provides information for SSSB members and those interested in soil science.

International Conference on Healthy Soil for Food Security and Ecosystem

Welcome to Healthy Soil 2024 Conference, a meeting of people having interest in soil health, food security and agro-ecosystem. The conference will be held at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), Dhaka, Bangladesh on 6-7 December 2024. Abstracts (within 450 words) are invited to the following sub-themes.

  1. Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management
  2. Carbon Sequestration, Reactive Nitrogen and GHG Emission
  3. Land Degradation and Conservation Agriculture
  4. Climate Resilient Agriculture in Fragile Ecosystems
  5. Soil-Water Pollution and their Remediation
  6. Soil Biodiversity, Microbiology and Ecosystems
  7. Soil Information and Data Harmonization

Keynote papers

  1. Soil Research in Bangladesh: Progress, Challenges and Opportunities for agricultural sustainability
  2. Soil Education, Awareness, Policy and Strategic Framework Towards Sustainable Soil Health

Dhaka is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. It is located just north of the Buriganga River, a channel of the Dhaleswari River, in the south-central part of the country. It is a hub for trade and culture, with a long history as a Bengali capital. Dhaka has been developing fast as a modern city since independents in 1971. It is a good city to visit some historical places such as Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil Museum, Bangladesh National Museum, and National Parliament House. Dhaka could be a great first stop to an extended visit to the other parts of the country, especially Cox’s Bazar sea beach and shopping, if your travel schedule permits.  The climate in July is hot and humid with temperature usually ranges between 33-350C).

The International Conference on Healthy Soil for Food Security and Ecosystem (Healthy Soil 2024) brings together the scientists having keen interest in healthy soil and how best this healthy soil can be maintained to support luxuriant plant growth and ultimately to produce higher amount of food, fibre and oil. With alarming global land, soil and water degradation and loss of soil biodiversity, Plant and Soil Research is needed to better understand the processes controlling soil health sustainability, food security and ecological biodiversity, and the delivery of nutritious & safe food and good environment to an increasingly hungry planet. It is intimately linked to the UN Sustainability Development Goals, SDG 2: Ending hunger (safe, nutritious and sufficient food), SDG 3: Good health and wellbeing (healthy soils for greater production of healthy and nutritious foods), SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation (Proper waste disposal and management safeguard healthy soil which further ensure germ free drinking water), SDG 13: Climate action (reduce inputs, minimize nutrient leaching and runoffs, and promote carbon sequestration), SDG 14: Life below water (Healthy soils guaranty pollution free water and confirm inland, marine and coastal biodiversity), and SDG 15: Life on land (revert land degradation and stop biodiversity loss).

The conference will provide a rich and stimulating exposure among leading and early career soil scientists of home and abroad. This conference will deliver excellent selection of talks and posters that is likely to generate discussion and advances in soil research for nutritious food and healthy ecosystems. We are expecting two couple of talks from world soil research leaders.

The conference site is now open and ready to receive participant’s registration details. Please mark these dates in your calendar and get your travel plans for a nice trip to Dhaka for Healthy Soil 2024 conference.

Best Regards,
